Richard Ginori Coat of Arms Cup & Saucer

A rare and important c.1855 large cup and saucer owned and ordered by the Vatican in 1855 for Blessed Pope Pius IX. This was made around 1855 and was sold by Christie's auction house to Nicholas Colella who is an important collector and seller from Syracuse New York. Colella sold millions of dollars of diamonds through Sotheby's and Christie's and when he passed away some years ago I purchase the entire collection of these cups and saucers from his estate. I have full provenance and photos from the auction listed in this auction. Mr. Colella acquired this set at auction the the 1960's and I am offering you a rare opportunity to own the actual cup and saucer made and owned by the pope. This was given back to the Pope's family after his death and the family offered it to auction years later. The cup is quite gorgeous with gold gilt winged angel with ball in her hand. There are blown out and molded scenes encircling the cup and all encircling the large saucer plate as well. Just incredible with Ginori marks and Pope Pius IX on the bottom of the cup. The cup features Pope Pius IX papal crest and insignia. Absolutely fine condition with no chips, cracks or gold loss on either piece. Kept in cabinets. The underplate measures 7 1/4" in diameter and the cup stands 5" tall x 4 1/2" in diameter. I have seen and own copies of this pattern made by Meissen at a later date, and again they are copies of this exact true pattern. Appraised around $5000.00 for each cup and saucer I am offering 1 set here and if interested do have the remaining 5 complete sets. This auction is for 1 cup and saucer. These were ordered by the Vatican around 1855. Just google this pope's history and you will find he was one of the longest reigning pope's in history and was a great man responsible for many incredible acts. He was born in 1792 and died in 1878. His reign was from 1846-1878.

Bottacin Venezia Lace Pattern Coffee Service for 1 Person
